THE LITTLE MAN

First, I have some songs to share, then a brief message after. First is Alan Jackson, with "The Little Man," then Alabama with, "Forty Hour Week (For A Livin')."
These two songs are about the best of America. The little man working hard every day to make a living. But as Alan's song point big money is killing off the little man. I feel the same as Alan depicts in his song when I drive through the town I was raised. A bunch of little stores and shops. Shops where every customer were treated like kings and queens. It was a great time to be alive. But big money took over. Big malls, big box department stores, killed downtowns all over America. And when you shop at them, they don't treat you kings and queens. All they want is your money. They really don't care about you.
Driving through my home town in recent days, very few little shops. Replacing those shops were big buildings, one a Community College, a huge "Woman's Health" building. counseling services.
Bethlehem Steel is gone. Clothing and shoe factories all gone. It's hard to find a job. Many positions have been filled by machines. Others have been shipped overseas. I recently call a business and a machine answered. Those machines rarely make any sense. When I did finally get to a real person, I asked what happened to the receptionist. I was told they didn't have one.
So often I hear of jobs being erased. What happens to them? How many of them go to the Government for help?
Unfortunately, the 40 hour work week is fast approaching extinction. Businesses have realized it's better to have a bunch of part timers, instead of full timers. And with automation, people are less needed.
Nowadays the term, "little man" doesn't refer to that man working a 40 hour week to raise his family. Nope, it's all those people on Government assistance in one form or another.
Why is this happening to America? Big money and power, and a big Government that supports big money and power. To hell with the little man is their attitude.
Small businesses are being squeezed out of business by discount prices at the malls, and a burdensome tax system and overregulation.
It was so nice to get out of the local school house for the day, on the way home stopping at a little mom and pop ice cream parlor for a 5 cent chocolate cone. And if I didn't have the 5 cents, they just gave it too me. Just try to get Wal-Mart to do that.
People were nice to each other back then. Even the police were. Sometimes officer Fry would be the crossing guard, and sometimes he would bring lollipops to give to the kids. Often he won the "Officer Friendly Award." Say, whatever happened to that? Maybe they don't give it because there are no more friendly officers.
Big money and big Government are destroying the little man. And it seems nobody cares. But there are people that care. But big money and big Government are doing their best to silence those of us that care.
If you make me your next President, this all can change. Unlike Donald Trump, I was not born with a silver spoon in my mouth. If you want someone in the White House that cares about the little man, then elect a little man.
