INVASION
by Tom Lineaweaver
When some people make an argument that our borders must be closed, they go to Article IV, Section 4 of the United States Constitution which states, "The United States shall guarantee to every state in this union a republican form of government, and shall protect each of them against invasion; and on application of the legislature, or of the executive (when the legislature cannot be convened) against domestic violence."
Why is it our founders never closed to the borders so no one can come across? Many obviously believe that just coming over the border is tantamount to invasion. If that's the case, crossing the border from State to State makes you an invader. James Madison stated, "A protection against invasion is due from every society to the parts composing it. The latitude of the expression here used seems to secure each State, not only against foreign hostility, but against ambitious or vindictive enterprises of its more powerful neighbors. The history, both of ancient and modern confederacies, proves that the weaker members of the union ought not to be insensible to the policy of this article." www.thesocialcontract.com/artman2/publish/tsc1101/article_123.shtml
Notice, "secure each State, not only against foreign hostility, but against ambitious or vindictive enterprises of its more powerful neighbors." The article goes on to say, "Thus, Madison included both invasions from foreign powers and from other States."
I live in Pennsylvania. If I cross the border into Maryland, am I invading Maryland? So the question is what does it mean to invade? Dictionaries I looked at indicates it means, "to enter by force." Just crossing a border is not an invasion.
So, what is an invasion? The Free Dictionary defines it this way.... "The act of invading, especially the entrance of an armed force into a territory to conquer." "(Military) the act of invading with armed forces." "An act or instance of invading, esp. by an army." www.thefreedictionary.com/invasion
So, if I cross the border into Maryland to get a job, am I an invader? When people cross the Southern border from Mexico to get a job, seeking a better life for their family, is that an invasion? Not by any definition that I saw.
Folks, I, at one time like so many others, believed that just crossing the border was wrong. I even called people who did it "trespassers." That is until I studied the issue from the founders and Constitutional perspective. The fact is this Country has been built by immigrants. It seems to me the founders supported immigration to America, as this article points out... www.huffingtonpost.com/david-bier/founding-fathers-on-immigration_b_1898163.html I know, folks are going to say I'm a liberal because I'm quoting from the Huffington Post. But, it just happens to be an article that articulates my current views on the subject.
Our nation has been built by immigration, and I see no reason why our nation cannot be improved by immigration. Our nation was built by people fleeing political and religious persecution. Why deny that today, especially when people are fleeing persecution created by our Foreign Policy?
When President, I will adhere to the principles laid out in this article. I will, as Commander in Chief do all that is in my control to protect the States from invasion, even covert invasion. At the same time, my Administration will have an open border policy for people coming here to seek a better life, or are fleeing persecution. I wholeheartedly believe that this is within the Constitution, and are the same principles our founders had. But, let me be clear, I will not stand for people coming into this Country that intend to do harm to the American people, or our Constitution. For example, if anyone comes here with the intention of implementing laws foreign to our Constitution, such as Sharia Law, they will be deported and never allowed into this Country again. This also includes people who come here to implement the Talmud as the rule of law. And for those in Government, whether Federal, State or Local, who allow the implementation of these foreign laws will be charged with treason. The Constitution is our rule of law, and it is the the duty of the President and Congress to defend our Nation against enemies of the Constitution both Foreign and Domestic. Those that would implement laws that supercede our Constitution are enemies of the Constitution. Giving aid and comfort to those enemies of the Constitution is treason.
Well, there you have my policy on the border and immigration. If you like it...
