PUBLIC WELFARE
by Tom Lineaweaver
In a discussion recently, on Twitter, about this topic. I asked if people are entitled to life. This was the response, "if u put in a little work, yes! If u think u deserve things that U did NOT EARN, NO." If I understand this, the only way you are entitled to life is if you put in a little work. And, you do not deserve anything you did not earn. Is that a fair assessment of this tweet?
Then my question was, "Did you earn life?" No answer to that.
I bring this up because I have encountered this attitude many times. While I believe we need to wean America off Federal Entitlements, I do not believe we should do so with no alternative, either from the States or the people as per the 10th Amendment. You can see my plan for Entitlements here... line2016.freeforums.net/thread/51/entitlements
I know what it's like to have needs that go beyond my abilities. I'm sure many do. Sometimes most people need a little help. But, I also have a decent understanding of the Constitution. And the Constitution does not authorize Federal Entitlements. Some believe Federal Entitlements are included with the "General Welfare" clause. I dispel that here... line2016.freeforums.net/thread/4/general-welfare
So, yes I am in favor of ending Federal Entitlements, but not because I'm as cold and cruel as the Tweeter above. In fact, it's too the contrary. Federal Entitlements are a trap. When you are on them you're in prison. What you can do is limited. No one in their right mind should ever want to be a recipient of Federal Entitlements. Of course, there are those that have no conscience, that will steal anything they can get away with. It is they that abuse the system. But there are those that are on Federal Entitlements because they have no other choice. And that's the key. Those people need an alternative. Those that abuse the system should go to jail for a while. And it is those that give Public Welfare a bad name. But, that is not the majority. The majority are good people that have hit hard times and have no where else to go.
